John Bolton speaks about Ahmadinejad

December 14, 2006

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, addresses the threat of Ahmadinejad.

John Bolton questions if we are at a historical moment in time:

“How is it that responsible policy makers of this time didn’t see this coming, how is it that they are missing these clear signals?”

“Ahmadinejad has had no hesitation with what his intentions are. He has repeatedly denied the existence of the Holocaust and that Israel should be wiped off the map. He holds conferences with names like ‘The World Without the United States’… and he continues to make statements despite what people around the world say about him.”

“I think that the notion of taking Ahmadinejad seriously, and taking seriously that he means what he says and intends to have the capabilities of carrying through on it is critical.”

Bolton’s own feeling is that Iran will expel IAEA inspectors (update 1-27-07: Iran barrs 38 inspectors) and that this will demonstrate that their program is for non-peaceful purposes.
