The Human Rights Picture Grim in Iran

July 19, 2007 by pulkit

Mansour Osanlou had his daylights darkened by the Iranian authorities. After a round of beating, he was put behind bars. Osanlou, apparently, doesn’t seem to have any criminal history; he is neither a mafiosi or a terrorist. His only fault: he is a union leader, who is not in the good books of the Mullah regime. He has been incarcerated without any formal charges being labeled against him. This is a travesty of the fundamental human rights, which are universally deemed mandatory. However, Ahmadinejad’s regime seems to have a contrasting view.

The security personnel that were entrusted with the job of arresting Osanlou didn’t bother with spelling a plausible reason for his arrest. The personnel, dressed in plane clothes, arrived unannounced and arrested Mansour, who was traveling in a bus. They told the passengers, rather unimaginatively, that Mansour was a thief. I should refrain from any digs, but, those cops could have, at least, come up with a more believable tale.
Mansour is the leader of a trade union unapproved by Tehran; despite that, his own rights , ironically enough, were trampled over with contemptible disdain.

Many right wing posses have voiced their concerns and disapproval over this issue. It is heartening to see that the people are not perturbed by such governmental connivance. Instead, they are rallying against such unacceptable acts that infringe basic human rights of innocent people.

“The humiliating detention of Osanlou on a bus and his beating is another example of the worrisome treatment that tramples the most basic human rights of citizens,” said the Defending Prisoners’ Rights Society, a nongovernment rights group.[source]
