The Great Iranian Circus: Iran Hangs Rapist in the Public Eye
July 26, 2007 by pulkit
In keeping with Iran’s vow to punish moral offenders with their lives, another man, a rapist, was hanged publicly. If you thought that public hangings were a thing of the past, something that had run its course, then the tyrannous Mullah regime in Iran doesn’t think so. At a time when most countries seem to be on the horns of dilemma regarding the rectitude of capital punishment, Iran has transformed death penalty into a circus.
With this recent hanging, Iran has made its way into the record books, and is now the second country throughout the world, after China, in terms of graciously handing the ultimate punishment. The country has “witnessed” around 139 hangings ,so far,in this year.
At least 177 people were executed in 2006, according to Amnesty International, making Iran the most prolific applier of the death penalty in the world after China.[source]
