Iran Enraged by Salman Rushdie’s Knighthood

It seems there is no love lost between Iran and Britain. A few days ago, the British weren’t too excited about the protests outside the British embassy over Iranians attending a party to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. But, they have exacted revenge, in their own taunting manner, by conferring Knighthood upon Salman Rushdie. The author of the book Satanic Verses has been at the receiving end of some Iranian ire and a fatwa. The fatwa was issued by Aytollah Khomenei in 1989 over the controversial book The Satanic Verses. Both the countries are trying thier level best to irk each other. Iran did rile up a few British feathers by detaining 15 British sailors, a few months back.
“This (award) showed that the movement of insulting Muslims was not accidental but was a planned and organized move that enjoyed support of some Western countries,” said Hosseini. [source]
