Iran and Syria in Denial Mode
August 9, 2007 by pulkit
Iran and Syria have refuted claims that they are complicit in spreading terrorism in Iraq. Delegates from both the countries, that were present at a conference on security in Iraq, defended their respective countries with a lot of conviction. The media persons in attendance asked them many questions related to their alleged support for terrorism in Iraq . Syria gave an account of many clashes with Iraqi militants that its forces have endured along the Iraq-Syria border. Iran, on the other hand, pleaded not-guilty based on the lack of evidence to vindicate such claims. U.S, Russia and other Middle-Eastern states were also represented at the conference. The U.S mantained that Iran and Syria had rolled the carpet for foreign militants to cross into Iran, and were providing more than just moral support.
Iran’s President, Ahmadinejad, had also pilloried all forms of terrorism and the slaughtering of innocent people. But, his barbaric statements that are blasphemous to the religion of huamnity seem to tell a different tale. He has committed his moral support to such militant organizations in Iraq and Palestine.
“This isn’t an official report. It’s not the first time that such accusations are made,” Firouznia told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting of a newly set up security committee on Iraq.[source]
