Iran’s All-In Bet for Western Appeasement

While Ahmadinejad’s remarks today indicate the decision to continue to defy the international community and UN security council resolutions, a remark made in a speech by the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, shows the regime may be weak and vulnerable after all:
“If we stand firm they will give in, but if we cave in, they will not give up and if they sense any hesitation on our side, they will come after us. If we demonstrate our resolve they [the western countries] will have to come to terms with us.”
Iran is counting on appeasement from the west to give them the time they need. However, since the regime is on the verge of collapse, it only needs a few more nudges from the outside world to bring them to the tipping point.
