Poll Reveals Iranians Crave Democracy

July 17, 2007 by pulkit

Opinion polls in Iran are few and far between in Iran, with the Iranian government keeping a close eye on any activity that is distantly democratic. However, in one of those sporadic polls, Iranians sang in chorus, a song for democracy and liberty in their country that so far has eluded them. In the recently culminated poll, around 4/5th of those surveyed coveted a democratic Iran. It is polls like this one that are the crescendo of public opinion in Iran; which, otherwise, is confined to rumblings and hushed tones. The sirens of the inevitable awakening of Iran are wailing loud enough. Soon enough, they will be sending shivers through the spines of the nefarious Ahmadinejad and his cronies. It is this intellectual resurrection of this great country that poses a threat greater than the one posed by an external invasion. Let the Iranians rise from their cultural ashes and resurrect that great culture, which was the epicenter of power in the ancient world.

The poll was also intended at knowing the opinion of the Iranian people vis-a-vis nuclear weapons. While many people favored a nuclear Iran, but they were willing to change their stance, if presented with foreign aid in return of eschewing nuclear weapons. It is clear that most Iranians want untainted, everlasting tranquility. They have unequivocally realized that it can be made possible,if and only if, Ahmadinejad is purged. This poll was conducted by Terror free Tomorrow.

Additionally, 61 percent of those interviewed “were willing to tell our pollsters over the phone that they oppose the current Iranian system of government, where the Supreme Leader rules according to religious principles and cannot be chosen or replaced by direct vote of the people.”[source]
